It makes me so happy to see my weekly number rise above 20!

I am feeling especially good after a solid day of rest yesterday. No aches or pains, energized after a solid night’s sleep, ready and excited for my run tonight.

I drank more water this week, but I can do an even better job with this, particularly on the days I have longer runs. I consumed a gel on my long run on Sunday, and while the texture was a difficult sell for me, the result was noted and I will continue experimenting with this so that I have a reliable plan by half marathon time.

I am still at the beginning of the Non-Runner’s Marathon Trainer, mostly reading for preparation and preliminary information this point as I won’t begin a set training schedule until late spring. However, taking some fundamental advice from the book about belief being key to achievement, I am spending more time consciously reflecting on my marathon goal and visualizing the race itself. I recognize that training this winter for the half marathon will amount to many drops in my marathon jug when the time comes.

As this week comes to a close, I am extremely grateful for all of my friends, old and new, who are inspiring and supporting me with their running journeys. The truth is that it takes courage, determination, and a lot of chutzpah to get out there and run. Especially when you are chasing a new feat you have never before experienced. Running is not just for the svelte and androgynous, the fast and the furious–running is for all. I had a chat with my mom last night and she asked if I thought she could get out there and add some intervals of jogging to her regular walks. Yes, Ma, you can totally make this happen. It’s waiting for you. The more of us who get out there and celebrate our bodies by running with pride, the more people will see us and think perhaps they could try to do this. I am grateful for every person who makes the decision to try; you make me stronger. There is nothing more grounding in my running practice than passing the glow of another headlamp in the night and knowing I am not alone.

  1. I love this post… that last paragraph about running is so true. I cannot believe that in March I made this decision to run and that it has made my life so much better. I am inspired by those that run fast and know much. However, it is even more inspiring to read about others who lace up their shoes and get out there and just DO it because they can and they love it!
